Wired from Congo, Laundered Through a Ballroom: The Trump Scandal That Nobody Wants to Talk About
Frank Drebin Would Be Proud
Nothing to see here. Keep moving. That is the official response from the loyalists still clinging to their Trump faith journey every time I bring up the Ballroom scandal. But I have to tell you, the numbers alone should end the debate.
Over 50% of donors to the Trump Ballroom events received government contracts. If you think that is a coincidence, I have a bridge to sell you, and I will even throw in a Kennedy Center donation that may or may not have actually arrived.
Follow the Money, If You Can Keep Up
This story has more moving parts than a Swiss watch, and it stinks just as much.
- Richard Grinnell allegedly sent text messages to Turhan Mildon, a Turkish billionaire, promising VIP access to the President in exchange for donations. The message reportedly read: once the money comes in, I will arrange the donation to the Kennedy Center, and you will be joining VIP events and getting close with the administration, even POTUS.
- Grinnell says those messages are lies. Convenient.
- Mildon was reportedly directed to wire $17.6 million to a Houston-based defense company, Texas Armament and Technology, split between a Congo software deal and a $6 million Kennedy Center donation
- The wire did not come from Mildon. It came from the Congo’s Minister of Finance in Kinshasa, where Mildon happens to have business interests
- Alina Habba, Trump appointee and now Mildon’s wife, reportedly stormed into the White House over the missing donation. The amount she cited went from $17 million to $6 million to $5.6 million in the span of one conversation
When the numbers keep changing, somebody is lying. The only question is how many somebodies.
A Venezuelan Walks Into a Courtroom…
And walks out with a misdemeanor. Julio Herrera Velutini, a Venezuelan billionaire who was facing felony bribery charges in the United States, had a remarkable legal transformation after donating through these same channels. Felony down to misdemeanor. Campaign finance violation. Case more or less closed.
That kind of legal alchemy does not happen by accident.
What the Establishment Will Not Tell You
Here is what the mainstream financial press is not connecting for you.
- Foreign capital from geopolitically complicated nations, including Turkey and Venezuela, is flowing into channels that allegedly buy American political access
- Defense contracts and government spending worth billions are being steered toward donors, which means your tax dollars are being allocated based on ballroom ticket prices, not merit
- Criminal charges are being reduced for wealthy foreign nationals with political connections, which sends a very clear message about who the justice system works for
- The Congo connection alone should be setting off alarm bells. Central African ministerial wires tied to White House access is not normal American political fundraising
The System Is Not Broken
I want to be clear about something. People keep saying the system is broken. It is not broken. It is working exactly as designed by the people who redesigned it. Pay to play is not a bug. For the people running this operation, it is the whole point.
I have been saying for years that corruption does not have a party. It has a price. And right now, the price of access to the most powerful office in the world is apparently a wire transfer from Kinshasa and a reservation at a ballroom event.
Keep asking questions. Keep following the money. That is what I am going to keep doing.
