Washington Embarrasses Itself Again and the Media Cheers for the Wrong Team
A Government Spectacle That Nobody Showed Up For
I am back in the States and the story is impossible to ignore. The Great American Fair in Washington D.C. is a full, embarrassing, undeniable disaster. No crowds. A fake triumph arch held together with what I can only describe as Staples-and-tape craftsmanship. The best analogy I have heard is that it feels like a tourist pamphlet rack at a roadside motel in the middle of nowhere.
This is what happens when politicians try to run events that should have been handled by professionals. The Smithsonian exists for a reason. Instead, the current administration decided they could manage a massive national spectacle, bit off more than they could chew, and handed the American public a very expensive embarrassment.
The Media Is Lying to You. Both Sides.
Before I go further, let me be crystal clear about something that applies to your financial life just as much as it applies to this story.
Fox News is not real news. Their coverage of this event has been a masterclass in cheerleading dressed up as journalism. But do not walk away thinking MSNBC is the answer either. They are the exact same machine running in reverse. Both outlets exist to sell you outrage, not information.
- Fox News covers what flatters its audience
- MSNBC covers what flatters its audience
- Neither is accountable to your actual reality
- The same is true of financial media covering Wall Street
Celebrating American Failure Is Sick
Here is what genuinely makes my blood boil. There are people out there who are happy about this. Schadenfreude. Reveling in a government failure because it embarrasses the other political team.
We all live here. Every single one of us. When America looks foolish on a national stage, that is not a win for anyone regardless of which party organized the disaster.
Bill Maher and the Foreigners Who See Us Clearer Than We See Ourselves
Bill Maher, a guy I do not agree with on much, absolutely nailed it last weekend. He highlighted social media videos from foreign visitors traveling across the United States, and these people are genuinely stunned by what they are experiencing.
- Travelers going from Texas to Vermont in disbelief that they are in the same country
- Visitors discovering American hospitality, natural beauty, and regional culture
- People from other countries treating this place with more appreciation than half the citizens who were born here
Maher used this footage to go after the far left’s obsession with American self-loathing. Good. Somebody had to say it.
The Founding Fathers Had It Right and Then Compromised It Away
Here is a thought that I have been chewing on. Building Washington D.C. as a dedicated federal capital might have been a philosophical mistake from day one. This country was built on the idea of limiting central government power. Then we built an entire city dedicated to housing it.
The original capital was New York. The D.C. decision was a political compromise, not a principled one. A nation designed to resist concentrated power should probably not have constructed a monument to concentrated power.
The Takeaway
America’s greatness has never lived in Washington. It lives in the people, the communities, the states, and the two-hundred-and-fifty-year track record of human freedom and innovation that foreigners are flying here just to witness.
Stop waiting for D.C. to get it together. It will not. Build your life, protect your assets, and make your decisions based on the real America, not the political theater version of it.
