You Cheered When I Slammed Pelosi. Now You Are Mad I Am Asking About Trump’s Trades.
The Scoreboard Does Not Lie
Let me give you the number that nobody on cable news wants to put on the screen: Donald Trump has conducted more stock trades this year than every member of Congress combined.
Sit with that for a second.
Now let me ask you something. When Nancy Pelosi was making those suspiciously timed semiconductor trades right before a major congressional vote, did you have proof of insider trading? Or did you just have a reasonable, justified suspicion that someone in power was using that power to get rich?
If your answer to Pelosi was “obvious corruption” and your answer to Trump is “nothing to see here,” I have one word for you. Hypocrite.
This Is Not a Defense of Pelosi
Let me be crystal clear because people love to twist this. I went after Nancy Pelosi. I went after her colleagues. I will go after anyone who uses a position of public trust to line their own pockets. That is the entire point of what I do.
What I will not do is suddenly go quiet because the person making the trades happens to be popular with a certain segment of my audience. That is not advocacy. That is just wearing a different team jersey.
- Selective outrage is not principles, it is tribalism with a press pass
- Insider trading laws exist because markets only function when the playing field is level
- Retail investors always lose when powerful people play by different rules
- Justifying bad behavior because it is your guy is exactly how the financial system stays rigged
The Word Is Hypocrisy and It Has Teeth
I looked up where the word comes from. Ancient Greek theater. Stage acting. Presenting a false face. Jesus called it out 19 times in the New Testament. Nineteen times. It has been corrupting human institutions since the beginning of recorded history, and it is corrupting your ability to hold power accountable right now.
I have been doing this long enough to recognize the pattern. The steroid era in baseball worked the same way. Fans loved the home runs. They did not want to ask questions. Then when it became impossible to ignore, everyone acted horrified. The willful blindness was the real scandal.
Hold the Standard or Admit You Do Not Have One
I take this microphone seriously. I know I will be judged for what I say here, and I am fine with that. I answer to my listeners and to God, not to any political party and certainly not to any network that wants me to pick a side.
The standard has to be the same. If trading activity by someone in power deserved scrutiny in 2021, it deserves scrutiny right now. If you cannot apply your own principles consistently, you do not actually have principles. You have preferences.
Ask the questions. Demand the answers. That is how you protect yourself and your money, regardless of who is in office.
