Congress Delivered Nothing and Wants Your Vote Anyway. Sound Familiar?
The “Less Bad” Con Is Running Again and You Are the Mark
I have spent my career calling out fraud. I have watched Wall Street firms sell garbage products to unsuspecting investors with polished pitches and zero accountability. And I will tell you right now, what is coming out of Washington heading into 2026 is the same con with a different logo.
The pitch is simple: we are less bad than the other guys. Vote for us.
That is it. That is the whole product. And just like a high-fee annuity with surrender charges buried in the fine print, most people will not realize they got taken until it is too late.
What Congress Actually Did This Year
Let me make this very concrete. Here is the legislative scorecard:
- Government spending: Another continuing resolution. More debt. No structural reform.
- Healthcare: Absolutely nothing. Not a single meaningful piece of legislation.
- Transparency promises: The things voters were specifically told would happen, did not happen.
- New wars, Epstein files, government downsizing: Ask yourself honestly what actually got done.
If this were a mutual fund, it would have a zero percent return with a two percent management fee. And the fund manager would be telling you to stay the course because the other fund is even worse.
The One Thing I Respect About the Other Side
I said this publicly at a massive Tea Party rally in Sarasota years ago and I will say it again. At least the far left follows through on what they promise. You were told there would be a government grocery store. There is now a government grocery store. It is going to be a colossal failure, but they did what they said.
That is more than you can say for the party that keeps telling you they are going to cut spending, drain the swamp, and restore accountability, and then passes a continuing resolution and goes on recess.
The Republican establishment has become exactly what it claimed to oppose. And the strategy now is just to point at the other side and say: at least we are not them.
Why This Matters Beyond Politics
This is not a partisan rant. This is a consumer protection issue. Because the people running this con control fiscal policy. They control the regulatory environment. They control the conditions that determine whether your retirement savings hold value or get eaten alive by inflation and debt monetization.
Here is what the “less bad” doctrine actually costs you:
- Persistent deficits keep inflation risk elevated for years, not months
- No healthcare reform means one of your biggest retirement expenses stays completely unpredictable
- Political theater over substance creates the kind of chronic uncertainty that markets eventually reprice
- Broken promises normalized means voters keep lowering the bar until accountability disappears entirely
I have watched this cycle play out in financial markets for decades. When the people managing your money do nothing, tell you things are fine, and ask for your continued trust because the alternative is worse, that is a red flag. In finance, we call that a warning sign. In politics, we call it a campaign platform.
Start calling it what it is, and start building a financial plan that does not depend on Washington suddenly developing a conscience.
