Why America Needs Less Democracy
(00:00.634)
I am calling the watchdog on Wall Street, Chris Markowski. Yes. I’ve actually called for this sometime. I’m calling for less. We want less democracy. We don’t want more democracy. And I know. my God. This is gonna get the blue hairs, the leftists get all upset about that. Isn’t that the that’s like one of the isn’t that the big left-wing radio show for years? Democracy now.
Fistr Democracy now. yeah, I’m gonna call for less democracy. Bear with me here. Bear with me. Ha have a listen. I I’m gonna go back to a a column that I wrote sixteen years ago popped into my head. And the title of the column was Thank You for Not Voting. two thousand ten.
I cited a movie that came out again in 1992, which was an Eddie Murphy movie called The Distinguished Gentleman. And in that movie, Eddie Murphy plays a con man named Thomas Jefferson Johnson. And he decides to run for Congress after the incumbent Jeff Johnson died. Now, what he does is he shortens his middle name to Jeff. He uses all of the
Dead congressman’s old campaign material, running a campaign just on name recognition, thinking that most people really don’t pay attention and will just vote the name, you know. Thomas Jefferson Johnson wins and Eddie Murphy, Hilarity Ensues. and for those that at that point I’ve been thinking it was that’s a comedy movie. Again, this is 1992. That movie came. that could never really happen in real life. Well, in 2010, and again, this is the South.
Carolina Senate Democratic primary. Alvin Green. Alvin Green won the Democratic primary for Senate in the state of South Carolina. he spent no money on his campaign. He had no rallies. He didn’t have a website. didn’t have a job. he I’m not making this, this is all true, okay.
(02:28.179)
Lives in his father’s basement. And I think about this. I’m sorry for all the people who live in South Carolina. It’s not all of you, but again, I guess this kind of explains Lindsey Graham to some degree. Anyway, he had a felony obscenity charge against him. He had no idea that his challenger was at the time was Jim Dement. And let’s just say when you his public speaking wasn’t his
Wasn’t one of his strengths. Let’s just leave it at that. Anyway, not a member of the Democratic establishment called Green to congratulate him, was James Clyburn, the House Democratic whip. he suggested that Green was a Republican plant.
Anyway, I I I remember seeing this back then and you know, basically trying to figure out how how Al Green beat again, it’s funny. The the competition, his guy was named was Vic Rawl, was his competition at the time. You know, if they were actually the singers, Al Green versus Vic Rawl. That that would have been kind of interesting. And it was funny. They they actually sent people out to ask about
I’ve spoken to many people who voted for him, and none could tell me why. I’m gonna read you something from Thomas Sol. wrote When Adolf Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920s leading up to his taking power in the 1930s, he deliberately sought to activate people who did not normally pay much attention to politics. Such people were a valuable addition to his political base.
Since they were particularly susceptible to Hitler’s rhetoric and far less basis for questioning his assumptions or his conclusions. Useful idiots was the term coined by Lenin to describe similarly unthinking supporters of his dictatorship in the Soviet Union. Put differently, a democracy needs informed citizens if it is to thrive or ultimately even survive. and again, I
(04:44.437)
I saw this and I made some suggestions back at the time. Back in 2010, I also hosted a daily drive time talk radio show as well. And boy, did I get some flack from this, but I didn’t care. some of the suggestions I put forward was eliminate voter registration drives. Again, I go back to the old you know, MTV, real world, rock the vote stuff, motor voter law. We talked about all that stuff here.
On the program. Now they it’s it’s go it’s on steroids at this point in time and how they go about doing it with technology. again, you know, I I’ve talked about the the anchor baby controversy. again, that’s still an issue today. the the most controversial item I brought up, and I still happen to agree with, is that you do not get to participate in our electoral process if you are living off or getting aid from your fellow citizens. And
The logic was simple for me. It’s like I pay the mortgage, the utilities, and all the bills of my household. My kids do not get to determine their bedtime. And we are a benevolent country. Social safety nuts that I have no problem with as long as they’re not abused. But if you were living off the benevolence of the citizenry, I don’t think you should have a say in how the country’s being run. Once one gets off public assistance, can participate again. No problem. Again, I the the the whole property owner.
thing that’s been brought up. And I I don’t necessarily I don’t agree with that, you know, taxpayers, because again, everyone’s in a perpetual state of paying taxes in some way, shape, matter, or form. Anyway, again, this is 2010. I’m fast forwarding to where we’re at today, 16 years later, and quite frankly, it thinks things have gotten worse as far as our republic is concerned. Democracy.
Yeah, that’s that’s you know what did they that’s the Washington Post, right? The democracy dies in the dark darkness. We’re not supposed to have a democracy. And we’re gonna I’m gonna go over this. I’m gonna take a look a little bit at that at history. I’m gonna present, you know, the idea that we need I’m saying it, we need less democracy here in this country. We don’t need more democracy. case case in point. Case in point, and I I have discussed this here on the program.
(07:12.191)
Graham Platner, Ken Paxson.
Graham Plattner, Ken Paxson. If you’re to ask people who support Graham Plattner and Ken Paxson why they’re voting for these people based upon their history and their background, they’re gonna say, it’s gonna fight! It’s gonna fight for us! Kind of like, you know, again, it’s like, you know, eighth-grade fight.
you know, in in middle school for junior high for crying out loud. how do we get to this point in time? again, it it was funny today. Today’s actual today’s gospel reading from Matthew, you know, he’s just kind of telling people about, hey, listen, it’s not just that you you’re not, you know, thou shall not kill. You got to go deeper than that.
you you have to forgive others. You can’t let anger and rage and all of this stuff bubble up inside you. And that’s what we have become here. you know, people get angry with me all the time. you’re apologizing for those people on the left and those leftists. if you think that I hate people because they voted for Kamala Harris.
You’re crazy. I don’t. I I I disagree with them. And I would, you know, I don’t mind, I like talking with people. I I think quite frankly, a better way of running a country and living one’s life is trying to actually bring people together. And you know, that’s it’s a much more difficult thing. It’s it’s it’s a hell of a lot easier. It’s a hell of a lot easier to point over there and say that person is awful.
(09:12.577)
That person is evil. Fight them. Go after them. it’s no way to run a the public though. That’s for sure.
The people that are and the funny thing is what’s interesting, you take a look at the Republican Party and the Democratic Party and you know the the populist nonsense that we’re dealing with here and they’re always having a boogie man. and you take a look at who profits from all of this, whether it be the the media networks out there, the the social media companies with their algorithms.
They’re all designed. They’re all designed to rage bait us. That’s again, that’s they make more money. They make more money when people are at each other’s throats. I again I I actually it popped into my head, you know, doing some homework and some prep work for today. I I I remember
I remember some of the the the debate. I remember there was a vice presidential debate between Cheney and Lieberman. And it was civil. They they sat down at a table and they had a conversation going over points and belief systems. And I don’t think I’ve seen one like that since. Ever since then, it’s like
How do we get a zinger in? How do we make fun of somebody? It’s it’s like completely lowered the level. You know, and again, I can’t watch it. It’s like a low, talk to low IQ. It’s it’s stupid to watch. Again, who won? Who had the better zinger? not one who’s actually had better ideas. Look at where we’re at today. Look at the candidates that people are going to have. It’s the ones that are looking.
(11:27.191)
to attack and be that so look at look at some of the ads that are being run using AI. That fella it’s I don’t I I think he’s I’m not a fan of his at all. running against Paxon. Hey, look at the candy Tal Rico and Paxon and and now they’re running advertisements of Tal Rico with AI wearing
Drag That’s wrong.
(12:05.089)
That I mean, how could one not think that that that’s you know, all it’s all f old fair No, it’s not.
It it it’s not. I’m watching right now. I’m gonna give you another example. I’m gonna tie this all in together. You you watch go on on social media it right now and how the algorithms are pumping out, watching them trying to get people angry, showing people at their worst moments. in particular, you had murder trial down in Texas. And there are some really misguided
Really misguid, in my opinion, really misguided people down there. But you’re watching how they’re taking this misguided people and they’re saying, Well, you know what? I’m watching it. This is this is the way black people are, this is where they are. I’m and I’m like, Really? I you know, two of my nephews who I love and adore are black. Sorry, because you’ve got some really misguided and disturbed people.
You think that that it’s applicable to everyone? But again, it’s it’s by design. Let’s get the people going. Let’s get people angry. you’ll hear me yell and scream here on the program. You’ll say, Markowski, you get angry on the program. Where’s my anger directed? What where do you see me directing my anger here on the program? And by no means whatsoever, am I a saint? You know, I’m looking to perfect my trying to
(13:46.328)
perfect myself every single day here on the program. And you know, there’d be times maybe when I go off in the wrong direction. But my anger is always directed at lies and bearing false witness.
(14:06.123)
I you know again,
(14:10.573)
There’s that a concept of, you know, again, truth. You know, what is truth? You know, Pilot, what is truth? The reality is, I get to make this perfectly clear to everybody out there. You don’t have a truth. Okay, I want you understand this. You don’t have a truth. I don’t have a truth. There’s only one. No, those advertisements. My truth, my Calvin’s. That’s my truth. You don’t have a truth. You are not a God. I am not a God. There is only
One. I have I’ve talked about here on the program, you know, the need for everybody to build, create, protect, and teach. And someone’s I’m not going out. I’m not, I’m I’m afraid. I’m afraid to do this. what? You’re afraid to be honest?
Yeah, y your biggest fear out there is politicians that I can’t go against Trump. well, I’m afraid I’ll get I might not get reelected. So what you’re saying is you’d rather
You you prefer you prefer not saying and doing the right thing. You have greater fear of of that than actually being honest and doing the right thing. I’m telling you right now, if that’s your mind thinking, well, you don’t have fear of God. Your fear is misplaced. Wanna get back to democracy, less democracy here.
And I I’ve I’ve alluded to this before. Yeah, again, we don’t we don’t really we we we don’t really pay attention. 250-year anniversary of the country. you know, look to the Constitution. Seventeenth Amendment to the United States Constitution 1912. Nineteen twelve. we
(16:13.385)
It basically what it allowed for is what allowed for is it allowed for the direct direct election of senators. if you go back to the founding of the country, you go back and take a look what happened. Article 1, Section 3, Clauses 1 and 2 of the Constitution. Each state legislature chose its state senators for a six-year.
Term. That was called the Connecticut compromise between small and large states. There was one. One person, James Wilson, was the sole advocate. One. This is the founders of people wrote the country. Sole advocate of popularly electing the Senate. It was defeated ten to one. Ten to one. This was again.
people, you know, states were concerned, you know, anti federalists there. We did away with that. We decided let’s have more democracy. And again, quite frankly, it doesn’t make any sense. Ask yourself a question why do we have a Senate and a House? Why? If they’re both directly, what’s the point? Why don’t we why don’t we just combine the two? You ever think about that?
The house was there, was designed, the founders were smart, okay? The people vote, their district more of a populist body. The Senate was a check on that populist body.
Yeah, well, they we talk about, well, you know, the Senate is the saucer where the you know the cup and you know it’s cools the cup, it calms down popular stuff because again, people people make oftentimes really dumb emotional knee jerk decisions. I see it all the time, people doing dumb things with their money.
(18:22.861)
Again, that’s what the founders understood. And again, they were not fans of democracy. This allowed for less democracy and it was a good thing. It was a good thing. Right now, for example, there’s a lot of hullabaloo o in regards to the Save Act, which quite frankly, I’d like to see passed.
I’d like to see pass. But do I want to see them throw out the filibuster? And again, you’ll you’ll hear the again, the people out there, and it’s so disingenuous. It’s not like they don’t even research the thing. you know, why do you why do you think we have the filibuster? People, you have people like, yeah, you’re right. You know, I don’t understand. You know, what’s on the Constitution to filibuster? What why do we do, you know, let’s just get this thing through? Why? Because we don’t really have a Senate anymore.
You know when that they first started the whole filibuster thing? It was not too far after this stupid amendment in 1917. And at that point, the filibuster then was two-thirds, 67 votes. It was 67 votes. It went down to 60 votes in 1975. 60 votes in 1975. Then they also changed the rules in regards to.
Clooture used to actually have to hold the floor physically for pr and they they changed that. The interesting is they lowered it to 60 votes and there’s been more filibusters. This is why you don’t want to get rid of it.
You wanna do it, you do it the right way. You gotta you gotta obvious then you gotta have to obviously elect more senators. I d I don’t want this country you want this country to become more populist?
(20:15.265)
Did you have any idea how I mean again that’s that’s a far left idea and you got people on the right pushing for this crap, threatening others, they push this stuff through. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. That is freaking dangerous. It is.
And again, y the the you talk about, you know, it these the things that that came during this period of time with Wilson, President Seventeenth, we got Federal Reserve, all of these things may seem like a long time ago. You know, in the grand scheme of history, it’s not, but it’s it’s been cancer in our country.
And many can cancers take a very, very long time to grow. This has been a cancer that’s been growing for a very long time. We need to go back to the states, the state legislatures choosing centers. It’s a check. Talk about checks, and it’s not just the Supreme Court, it’s not just the president, you know, the executive branch.
And Congress. It’s Congress itself having a check.
And we’ve taken that away.
(21:37.742)
And you you see today, you see today, again, you know, the most important I’ve said this sometime, the most important vote out there is the dumb vote. Using again, using all the various different means together. Ba we talk about California ballot harvesting, get out the vote, all of these people that have made it very, very easy that normally before it might not show up on election day because they didn’t care.
Didn’t care, no big deal. Now it’s easy. It’s too easy.
It’s too easy. we gotta make we gotta make voting that much easier. We gotta make it simple. Why?
Why? Again, the our kind of you know, what we talk about week in, week out in the program, everything in life that has meaning, value, and worth involves work, time and effort.
I mean you could sit on your your couch, you know, watching TV. I don’t know what to vote for, I’m just one boo. So you cancel out someone’s informed vote? Wha how is that good? How is that make the country stronger or better? It doesn’t.
(22:55.392)
It doesn’t. All it does is it helps people who have an interest or an entrenched part that that is self-interested. Not what’s best for the country. So yeah. Yeah. I I vote for less democracy. Watchdog on wallstreet.com.
