Donald Trump Hits For The Cycle!
June 2024
Donald Trump hit for the cycle. For those unfamiliar with baseball terminology, hitting for the cycle means hitting a home run, triple, double, and single in a single game. Trump achieved the metaphorical equivalent in a recent interview.
In the midst of debate week, Trump’s appearance on the “All in Podcast” was nothing short of impressive. I recommend everyone check it out; I even retweeted the link on my Twitter account (@ChrisMarko). This hour-long interview covered a myriad of topics, showcasing Trump at his best.
Unlike his usual rally performances, which sometimes veer into stand-up comedy territory and can drag on, this interview highlighted Trump’s capability to engage in intelligent, focused conversations. The “All in Podcast” featured four highly intelligent business people asking Trump questions on various topics. His responses were sharp and insightful, particularly on the subject of tariffs. Trump discussed using tariffs not as a replacement for income tax but as a tool for fair trade, mirroring the stance we’ve often discussed here. If a country imposes a $100 tariff on our goods, we should respond in kind. It’s simple and fair.
One of Trump’s standout ideas, which he discussed during the podcast, is related to immigration. He suggested stapling a green card to the diplomas of international students who graduate from American universities, whether they earn a four-year degree or a two-year degree. This idea is a no-brainer. Why wouldn’t we want to retain the best and brightest minds in our country?
Throughout the interview, Trump maintained a tone that was neither combative nor aggressive, a refreshing change from his usual public persona. The conversation was intelligent and engaging, making it clear that this is the medium Trump should utilize more often. Mainstream cable news often lacks the depth and quality of discussion found in this podcast. If Trump’s campaign focuses on such platforms rather than traditional town halls or rallies, he will undoubtedly gain significant ground. The last I checked, the podcast had almost 25 million views—a testament to its impact.
One of the more contentious topics discussed was abortion. Trump reiterated his stance of returning the decision to the states, aligning with the 10th Amendment. He acknowledged that voters in Ohio chose a more liberal approach, and that’s their prerogative. This approach contrasted sharply with the hyperbolic attacks often seen on cable news.
Looking ahead to the debates, Trump needs to maintain this composed, issue-focused demeanor. Biden’s team will undoubtedly try to provoke him, but as my mother always said, “Never argue with idiots; they will drag you down to their level.” Trump should stick to the issues and avoid getting drawn into petty squabbles.
In conclusion, this podcast showcased Trump in a light that many have not seen in a long time. It was a highly intelligent discussion that highlighted his potential as a serious candidate. I highly recommend listening to it. You can find the link on my Twitter (@ChrisMarko).
