The Patriot Economy Scam: How Conservative Branding Became a Ponzi Scheme Delivery System
They Knew Exactly What They Were Doing
This was not an accident. This was not a business that started legitimately and went sideways. The Frost family in Georgia built First Liberty as a machine specifically designed to extract money from conservative investors by exploiting their political identity. They knew that if they could get you to see them as fellow patriots, as people who shared your values, your church, your worldview, you would stop asking the questions that would have saved your financial life.
The pitch was almost poetic in how shameless it was. “The Patriot economy.” Get off Wall Street. Get returns that Main Street deserves. 18% on bridge loans. Eighteen percent. If you heard that pitch and your immediate reaction was not to laugh that person out of the room, then this article is for you.
What They Were Actually Selling
Short-term, high-interest bridge loans. Packaged up and sold to everyday investors who were told they would earn 18% returns. Where did the money actually go? To fund the Frost family lifestyle across Georgia. One big Ponzi scheme. It took me ten seconds to identify it as such. Ten seconds. Because when someone is promising you 18% on a retail investment product, the math only works one of two ways. Either there is a level of risk that would make a sane person run, or the returns are fabricated. In this case, it was the latter.
The SEC got involved. People are likely going to prison. The Wall Street Journal did the deep dive. I covered this months ago when the SEC first started sniffing around because this is exactly the kind of operation I have spent my career warning people about.
How Conservative Media Became the Fraud’s Delivery System
Here is where it gets ugly, and I say that as someone who has been doing conservative radio for 26 years.
First Liberty ran ads on major conservative platforms. Eric Erickson’s syndicated show. Charlie Kirk’s podcast. Brant Frost personally appeared on streaming shows to recruit investors directly, using language designed to activate tribal trust.
The media ecosystem that was supposed to inform these investors became the channel that delivered them to the fraudsters. And here is how that machine operates:
- Hosts sell advertising time. That is how they make their living. Not wrong on its own.
- Station management takes the ad revenue and accepts zero responsibility for what the advertiser claims
- Listeners hear a familiar, trusted voice associated with the product and assume endorsement and vetting happened
- In most cases, no vetting happened at all
I was pressured by a network years ago to take gold coin advertisers. I looked at the spread between buy and sell prices on what they were pushing as investments and walked away immediately. I am a fiduciary. My income does not come from selling you to an advertiser. It comes from a fee I charge to manage your money in your interest. That is a fundamentally different relationship than what most media personalities have with their audiences.
Politics Is Not an Investment Strategy
This is the part I need you to really hear. When politics becomes your religion, when your party or your movement becomes your idol, you stop applying rational scrutiny to anyone who waves the right flag. That is not a conservative problem or a liberal problem. That is a human problem. And predators understand it perfectly.
The moment someone invokes shared political identity as a reason to trust them with your money, that is your cue to slow down, not speed up. Here is what actual due diligence looks like:
- Check SEC and FINRA registration before anything else. Use BrokerCheck. It is free and takes two minutes.
- 18% promised returns on any retail product is a Ponzi scheme flag. Full stop. Do not rationalize it.
- Media adjacency is not vetting. A company buying ads on a show you love has paid for airtime, not credibility.
- Ask how your money is custodied and by whom. A legitimate operation has a clear, verifiable answer.
- Run from anyone who uses your identity as their primary sales tool. That is manipulation, not qualification.
The Bottom Line
They called themselves patriots. They wrapped their fraud in the language of conservative values and promised returns that only a Ponzi scheme can deliver. They targeted good people specifically because those people trusted them. Your political tribe is not a background check. Treat it that way.
