Retirement…Keep It Simple, Stupid!
(00:00.466)
Oh, so we got another hard hitting piece in the Wall Street Journal about retirement. And the title of this article, the US gets a C plus in retirement and comparing us to countries around the globe. And they actually want us to believe that Kazakhstan has a better retirement system than we do. It’s funny if you actually take a look at these things and just how ridiculous some of these studies are.
One of the things that I found interesting is that our rankings went down because there’s no magic safety net that’s there to protect in regards to social security. And they got a point there. Got a point. Yeah. Social Security and Medicare are going bust within 10 years. But anyway, all that stuff about retirement. I do retirement reality all the time.

Simple, stupid. Week in, week out in a radio show, we say everything in life that has meaning, value and worth involves work, time and effort. Now in this piece in the Wall Street Journal, it cites very small European countries, many of which have got sovereign wealth funds that are based upon commodities, very different metric than what we have. It also talks about our 401k systems and IRAs and people deciding not to participate.
in these things. My son’s participating. He’s got his own Roth IRA. He’s in college. OK. You can either decide you’re going to be self-reliant, or you can leave yourself to the whims of the government when it comes to retirement. That’s quite frankly, that’s up to you. We supposedly live in a free country. And living in a free country.
allows you to have choices.
You decide what you want to do. You want, you want people keep it simple, stupid. Okay, I’ll give it to you. Here goes. Here goes. I don’t care what it may be. Okay, I don’t care what it is. I don’t care what career you have. I don’t care if you are a doctor. I don’t care if you’re a lawyer. I don’t care if you run an HVAC business, a plumber, whatever it may be. You study hard, which means what? You’re constantly working at your craft.
You’re constantly looking to better yourself, educate yourself in your business. You study hard, you work hard, you save hard, and then you know what? You play hard too, but it’s in that fricking order. Get it? It’s in that order. Study hard, work hard, save hard, play hard.

I mean, really, I can’t make it that much easier on you. Okay, I run an investment firm. We’ve got clients all over the bloody world for crying out loud. This is the way you do things. If you’re looking for a quick fix, whatever it may be, I got nothing. And here’s news, neither does anybody else. If they’re selling you that, they’re lying to you. So once again, keep it simple, stupid, study hard.
Work hard, save hard, and damn right, you play hard. Watch Dog on wallstreet.com.
