Musk is Talking Sense on Trump’s Terrible Tariffs
(00:00.238)
The interesting interview with Elon Musk last week, where he basically called for no tariffs on EVs. He said, neither Tesla nor I asked for these tariffs. I was talking about Biden’s tariffs on Chinese -made electric vehicles. In fact, I was surprised when they were announced.
Again, the Biden administration putting a 100 % tariff on Chinese made electric vehicle imports to the United States. Yeah, by the way, China’s threatening a 25 % car tariff against all of our cars. All cars from the United States being sold in China. Again, Elon, he kind of like, again, the guy wants to have it two ways. I mean, Tesla was built.
on subsidies and carbon credits. But he said Tesla competes quite well in the market in China with no tariffs and no deferential support. I’m in favor of no tariffs. And he says he doesn’t agree with tax incentives for EVs either. Again, I’m not for tax incentive for EVs, but saying this all along, even though he’s benefited from them. But I’m in the same boat. I’m in for no incentives for anything. And he said the same thing. I don’t think oil and gas.
should get any sort of incentives. I like a bloody free market here in the United States and let the chips fall where they may. But anyway, he says, I think if there are not trade barriers established, they will pretty much demolish most other companies in the world. He’s talking about Chinese vehicles. And just again, he said they’re going to own the market. And they are. They are.
And, you know, it’s it’s it’s again, it’s fascinating because right now the Biden administration, you know, and are going here, there and everywhere, trying everything to put the kibosh on these Chinese vehicles being sold around the world. And again, I can I find that interesting. I said, you know, you got areas of the world that are developing that that don’t have the type of wealth that we have here in this country and the opportunity to get themselves into a car.

at an affordable price, we’re going to tell them no. No, no, we’re going to make you pay more. Again, it’s quite frankly, it’s embarrassing as far as I’m concerned. It comes from a position of weakness. And I’d rather go out there and compete and like, may the best company win. How about that? Watchdog on wallstreet .com.
