Josh Hawley Doesn’t Understand the Food Stamps Problem
(00:00.69)
Okay, Josh Hawley. Josh Hawley and Free Food, EBT. Josh Hawley is a Republican Senator from Missouri and I questioned him quite often here and some of the statements that he has made. He just put out a piece entitled, No American Should Go to Bed Hungry. No American Should Go to Bed Hungry.
And again, if we’re going to follow the same logic line, no American should be without a home, no American should be without healthcare. I mean, what else? No American should be without transportation. My question to Josh is where does it end?
Where does it end and is this the responsibility of the taxpayers of the United States? Or maybe this should be the responsibility of institutions within the community, churches, for example. So Holly puts out a piece here. The federal government has been shut down for 28 days and counting, that’s 28, who’s due long. And already the second longest federal shutdown. Okay, he says, Saturday is gonna be a grim milestone. 42 million Americans will lose
federal food assistance. Josh, know what’s grim? Is that there’s 42 million Americans getting food assistance. 41 in 8 Americans is on food assistance. Now he’s saying Congress must not let that happen. He says America is a great and wealthy nation.
Josh, this great and wealthy nation that you speak of is $38 trillion in debt.

30, if I have, if I have a house and a car and a boat and all these, I’m playing pretend out there, maybe a second home and whatever it may be, and I am, you know, $50 million in debt and growing, am I wealthy or am I broke?
Am I wealthy or am I broke?
(02:34.656)
Anyway, our most important wealth is our generosity of spirit. We help those in need, we provide for the widow and the orphan, love of neighbor is part of who we are. The scriptures injunction to remember the poor as a principle Americans have lived by, it’s time Congress does the same. You guys have been doing this since the 1960s. Josh, war on poverty has failed miserably.
and you’re suggesting that we’re gonna keep doing the same thing?
We shouldn’t reform this, Josh. Everybody is seeing right now where the money’s going. Everybody is, all the information is coming out. How much is actually going to Americans and how much is going to people that shouldn’t even be here in the first place. There’s one of the largest magnets of bringing people here to the United States is free stuff, Josh.

Government shutdown has already touched countless lives and not for the better. Key service has been curtailed and hundreds of thousands of federal employees, air traffic goals, Capitol police are working without pay, but letting federal food assistance lapse would introduce an entirely new stage of suffering. The best solution would be to pass a clean funding bill to reopen the government. But if that can’t be done, Congress at the very least needs to pass my bill to ensure food assistance continues uninterrupted. Millions of Americans rely on food assistance just to get by.
yes, known as food stamps. It’s the lifeline that permits the needy to purchase basic food items at the grocery store. Basic food items. Do you know the number one item?
The number one item paid for by food stamps is soda. It’s fat.
That’s the number one food item is soda. We want to do this. Why don’t we talk about what one can purchase with these food stamps? He’s talking about, know, last year Snap and Rollies hit about 42 and 12 percent of the American population. And again, it has a bunch of anecdotal stories and I guess I know
I said people need help from time to time and I’m all for that. Like I said, I’m all for that. But getting people addicted, which we have done to handouts and giveaways is not a good thing. It’s not. And that’s what we’ve done. And both Democrats and Republicans use these handouts and giveaways to help themselves to get reelected. I did a…

Peace. Did a piece, uh, wow, 15 years ago, a little over 15 years ago. Thank you for not voting. And, know, at the time I was talking about, uh, it’s actually citing the movie, the distinguished gentlemen with Eddie Murphy. And there was a race that was taking place in South Carolina, which was quite humorous at the time. But anyway, um, let’s skip past all of that. I pose some suggestions.
in regards to improving our voting laws in the United States. you know, obviously getting rid of stupid voter registration drives, which are nonsensical. Also talking about the anchor baby controversy, sedition, rights of children, illegal immigrants talked about that as well. And here’s one that ruffled many people’s feathers. But
I don’t and I believe that this is I believe that this is reasonable quite frankly You shouldn’t be allowed to participate I’m gonna read exactly what I put here you do not get to participate in our electoral process if you are living off or are getting aid from your fellow citizens and My logic is simple. I pay the mortgage the utilities and the other bills of my household therefore
My kids do not get to determine their bedtime. Again, 15 years ago. Kids are beyond that now. We are a benevolent country with social safety nets that I have no problem with as long as they are not abused. However, if you are living off the benevolence of the citizenry, I don’t think you should have a say in how the country is being run. Once one gets off public assistance,
They can participate in our republic again, no problem. Once you get off public assistance, you can vote again. Now people have suggested that only property owners or taxpayers be allowed to vote. I disagree with this because whether one pays income tax or not, he or she is still in a perpetual state of paying taxes. That’s just the way things are.
(07:46.511)
I know this may sound harsh, but I think it is more callous than an uninformed state subsidized voter who decides to vote for someone based solely on the fact that their choices, choices name sounds like they’re, you again, someone who’s going to be there paying their bills.
And is this not reasonable?
I pose this to Josh, is that unreasonable? Why don’t we do that? Why don’t we fix the system? Because we know the system’s a mess. The fact that you know as well as I do, Josh, that 42 million people that are getting food stamps, many of them don’t deserve food stamps. We all know this. We can watch the freaking videos everywhere now. They’re posting the pride in gaming the system. Josh.

Again, is Josh Hawley’s a politician and he’s looking to move on to greater things. Maybe he’s going to play the populist card and try to run as the compassionate conservative for president someday. That’s the way it sounds like to me. But does this solve the problem? Are we dealing with the fact that you know the funny thing is this is true. They actually tried this is several years ago. They tried to reform what one could get.
what one could get using food stamps. And you know, the Coca-Cola lobbied the hell out of Congress to make sure that soda wouldn’t be taken off that list.
Yeah, not making this up. Look it up. Watchdog on wallstreet.com.
