Trump Bombs on CNBC
(00:00.354)
Okay, so Donald Trump on CNBC this morning and he bombed. It’s all right, bombed. I’m gonna be honest with everybody here. CNBC, I think Becky Quick was not there this morning. Well, Jay Clayton was on there as well. Michelle Lee was on as well. But we also had the usual Joe Kernan on there and Andrew Ross Sorkin on the left. Anyway, and I…
I’ve mentioned here before, I think they do a pretty darn good job on CNBC Squawk Box in the morning when it comes to news. I’m going to talk about Trump and some of the statements that he made, because again, a lot of people’s heads are spinning at this point. I mean, these are died in the wool. Super Trumpsters over the course of this weekend are like, what? What are they? What does he say? What is he doing?
Um, let’s go back to last week where Donald Trump was touting his, um, his COVID vaccines. So we had Alex Jones freaking out over that. Um, myself, I’m not freaking out over it. I mean, again, it’s, it’s Trump, anything that he says, uh, he’s never, according to Donald Trump, he’s never did, done anything wrong in his entire life. Everything he’s done has been perfect and wonderful and great. And honestly, uh, the vaccines, uh, we’re not safe.
Um, and that’s being proven true as we gather more and more information. And I’m sorry, you can’t argue with me. I know it firsthand. Let’s just leave it at that. Anyway, um, the next thing actually got Mark Levin upset. You got Steve Bannon upset. Donald Trump has flip -flopped on. Tick tock. I, um, I, for one, um, I could give a darn about tick tock on.
TikTok. So they’re saying that the Chinese are data collecting via TikTok. I don’t know. Maybe they are do something about it. But Trump met with the hedge fund manager, this fella by the name, what is his name again? I’ll get it here in a second. Jeff Yass. Sorry about that. Jeff Yass and met with him. He’s got some, I don’t know how many.
(02:22.606)
billions of dollars invested in TikTok. And all of a sudden Donald Trump has changed his tune, was asked about it on CMDC this morning. And he said that the greater, in essence, I’ll paraphrase, a greater enemy out there is Facebook. Said that Facebook is the enemy of the state and that if you ban TikTok, you ban TikTok, then it’s gonna make Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg or what do call him? Zucker schmuck or something like that stronger.
Okay. Um, again, this is conflicting with Republicans right now that have actually come out and supported Donald Trump because they’re now there’s a bill in front of Congress that would ban tick tock Republicans are for it. And Joe Biden said he’d sign it.
So I don’t know, again, the Republican party, the left part of their so -called brain is not talking to the right part of their so -called brain. Who knows what’s going on? But again, you got die in the wolf Trump supporters, none too happy about this. Kellyanne Conway, it looks like she is lobbying on behalf of TikTok right now, making the phone calls. Again, going to an underlying,
lesson of life that you all need to know is that not all, okay, it’s not absolute, but 98, 99 % of politicians and people who work in Washington to work for candidates are whores. Except that, not in the traditional sense that you know, the world’s oldest profession, but in essence, the world’s oldest profession. They’ll do anything for money. But I actually got greater respect for
hookers and I do most of these politicians quite frankly. Anyway, neither here nor there. Tariffs, tariffs. Trump talked at length he was questioned by Andrew Ross Sorkin and again, Andrew is a left of center guy. Cool collected in the interview talking about asking Donald Trump about tariffs and
(04:42.67)
came across as a bit of word salad from Donald Trump. I agree with Trump’s points. I agree with Trump’s points when it comes to, again, if they’re putting tariffs on us, then we have to retaliate in kind. I get that. But Andrew asked this question, and this is what’s going to happen. 10 % across the board tariffs is moronic.
Various studies being put out there say it’s going to cost the average American family $2 ,000 a year. And Donald Trump’s response to that was, well, we’ll think about lowering taxes somewhere to make up for that. Faceplant. Many people can handle that, not many, but a large swath of the country can handle that extra $2 ,000 a year, even though we don’t like to do so. What about the people that are going to get whacked by this and
aren’t paying any taxes anyway, or paying little to nothing anyway. How are you gonna make up that? You’re gonna start cutting checks, stimulus it, or are you gonna cut checks like you did to all of the farmers because of the retaliatory tariffs that China put on our agricultural products? So again, you put tariffs on China, then you had to turn around and bail out the farmers because of the tariffs that you put on China. Again, dumb.
And this is this is econ by Harry and Lloyd, dumb and dumber. He mentioned this as well, and this is when they were again. They brought up a guy that, again, I have an enormous amount of respect for, and I’ve talked about him here on the program. I often gift his book along with the check at graduations to kids. I love capitalism.
Ken Langone. So he was asked, they were asked, you know, about Home Depot co -founder Ken Langone, who could, by the way, buy Donald Trump 10 times over. Just letting you know, okay? Ken Langone would buy Donald Trump 10 times over. One of the founders of Home Depot. A month and a half, two months ago, Ken Langone was on Squawk Box, and he talked about his worries about Trump.
(07:10.606)
that it’s going to be four more years of getting even. And again, they asked Donald Trump about this. And this is what Trump had to say. Well, look, I’ve never been a fan of Ken. I don’t know if he supported me because I was the only one that he could support, but I’ve never been a fan.
Never been a fan, huh? 2020, Trump raved about Langone on social media, calling him a great American. During COVID, they were in contact in regards to the coronavirus pandemic. Ken Langone is heavily involved now in healthcare. In fact, Ken Langone made a nice donation to NYU Medical.
where now if you get into NYU med school, you go for free. Courtesy of Ken Langone. Anyway, Langone gave $100 ,000 to Trump’s 2017 presidential inaugural committee. Again, Langone did donate 500 ,000 last year to a pro -Haley super pack. Again, I’m not a supporter of Haley, which is fine. I mean, again, Langone wants to support Haley, wanted to support.
Haley, let’s be honest here. Ken Langone, like I said, could buy Trump 10 times over. Ken Langone came from nothing. Immigrant parents here on Long Island built up his entire business on himself. It’s a true success story and you’re not a fan of Ken Langone. Why would you go on CNBC and say something like that to all of people like myself who happen to…
you know, look up to guys like Ken Langone because we know what they’ve done and what they’ve built and the jobs that they’ve created. And in that same exchange, Donald Trump also admitted that he’s not a conservative. He’s not a conservative. He says, I’m for common sense.
(09:21.612)
People say you’re conservative. I’m not conservative. You know what I am. I’m a man of common sense and a lot of conservative policies are common sense. Go back. You don’t want to take my word for it. Actually, I suggest reading the transcript. They haven’t posted. I’ve been able to get the entire clip in its entirety posted. They’ve got various different ones that are out there. Go see for yourself.
Go see for yourself. I don’t know what the president, what the former president is thinking at this point in time over TikTok, what’s happened this past weekend, what he’s saying, what he’s going on CNBC. Again, they also talked about the budget and spending.
and entitlements as well. And again, Trump gave a whole bunch of word salad that didn’t make sense. The Biden administration took a bit out of context, of course, posted it out there talking about, you know, basically not a Biden tweet out, not on my watch. Trump was saying about making cuts to Social Security. Again, I don’t, I don’t understand. I don’t think that the Donald Trump is going to win.
being going after, just going after Joe Biden and the issues with Joe Biden and going after his age and all of these other things. I don’t think that’s a winning formula. You’re going to have to come up with something. I understand you’re going to continue to talk border, border, border, border, border. That’s a massive, that’s a huge issue with the American people. No doubt about it. That is a major issue and that’s going to resonate with many people, but it’s got to be a little bit more than that.
It really does. And I don’t know, you might want to be a little bit more prepared when you go on Squawk Box to see NBC in the morning. Just saying. Watchdog on wallstreet .com.
