January Jobs Report: Strong Growth or Just More Spin?
(00:00.576)
January jobs report was it a strong report or not again like most jobs reports People spin them depending on one what side that you’re on the payroll number rose by a hundred and thirty thousand that is way more double than what was expected They’re expecting fifty five thousand
And the interesting thing is, is that we’ve had various different Trump lackeys out and about talking about that we should be expecting lower numbers moving forward. Again, big improvement over December, which saw a gain of 48,000. Now let’s look backwards because that’s important. Latest couple revisions to the downside past couple months, 17,000 jobs, 2025.
was supposed to overall be a downward revision in the 900,000 number 2025 very, very weak year for job creation. Now that changed a little bit improvement. It was only in the 800,000 somewhere in that level as far as revisions to the down downside for 2025. Are we kicking off 2026 on the right?
Well, we’re gonna take a deeper dive take a look inside some of these numbers where most certainly seen a Little bit of improvement because quite frankly it couldn’t get much worse Manufacturing jobs ticked up slightly Slightly and again, we have to do much much better overall job creation still the same Still same healthcare Healthcare has been the job engine
for this country for some time. And that’s not changing. What we need to have happen…
(02:09.4)
What we need to have happen quite frankly is we need to get small businesses up and running again and moving and grooving again. That’s the key. That’s the key. You wanna have sustainable job growth. It has to come from small businesses. I know I’ve said this before, I’m gonna say it again. Okay, large businesses hire and fire. And when they’re firing, it makes a lot more news obviously.
makes a lot more news when companies are laying people off rather than when they’re hiring. Because companies don’t just come out and announce, hey, we’re going to hire an additional 50,000 people. They don’t say that. But if they’re going to fire people, they have to make announcements. They have to. And they go ahead and they do that. And obviously, it makes much, much bigger news. But the reality is, it’s always usually a wash with large companies. Real jobs growth comes from companies that are five years old and younger. And that’s
what we have to get back to that area. And the reality, the reality is, if we can get some sort of clarity, some sort of clarity when it comes to tariffs moving forward, that’s a step in the right direction. Big, beautiful bill coming into play as far as
deductions and expensing, people meeting with their accountants this time of year, getting some sort of semblance of what’s gonna happen moving forward. That’s gonna be a benefit. But the tariffs without a doubt is, it’s a major, major hit to many small businesses out there. We get it all clear, one way or another, one way or another, so at least you know what you’re dealing with. Again, it moves that uncertainty. Uncertainty is a killer.
It’s a killer for small businesses out there. They don’t know what’s gonna happen next. And again, they’re not, know, Ford Motor Company, you know, announced earnings yesterday, which were a disaster. $900 million in tariff charges for the last quarter? Ouch!
(04:24.94)
I mean, that hurts them. Imagine what that type of tariffs would do to a small business. Obviously, scale differently, but Ford can absorb it unlike small businesses. That will help the overall jobs picture. Great number for the month. Very happy to see it. But a month doesn’t make a trend. A month doesn’t make a trend. We’ve had very, very weak jobs numbers throughout 2025. God willing,
We’re going to continue to see this type of strength, what this means as far as the Federal Reserve is concerned.
I don’t know. mean, you know, the Fed, they’re gonna be lowering rates with a number like this. I think it most certainly is gonna put off anything like that down the road. I really do. I don’t see much changes in regards to what the Fed is gonna do at this point in time. But overall, I love to see when Americans are employed. Watchdogonwallstreet.com.
