Bear Hunt
We at Markowski Investments have been trying to drive one fact home for decades: whether it be a proverbial bull market or bear it will never change our core principals nor the objectives for our clients.
In other words, we really could care less about conventional wisdom of the day that the chattering classes are force-feeding investors. Conventional wisdom is poison. We focus solely on owning high-quality companies that are suitable for our clients and work diligently to allocate them properly based upon each family’s unique situation. The short-term ebbs and flows of the market do not factor into what we do.
With that in mind there has been a ton of buzz in regard to the recent 20% rally of the S&P 500 technically placing us in a bull market. Many in the media have broken out the party hats and noisemakers we instead provide proper perspective.
Two out of the last three bear markets have shown similar rebounds only to hit new lows. Will that pattern repeat?
Perhaps…
However, predicting short-term market moves is an exercise in futility and something we do not engage in at Markowski Investments. We have traversed multiple market selloffs and supposed end of the world events to raging easy money bull market hype cycles. What history has taught is that things are not always what they seem or what you are being told. The ONLY way to navigate through all of this is to be a great company owner. Rock solid fundamentals matter.
The futility of timing markets is undeniable that more often than not leads to losses. Market chasers and gamblers have more in common than they might realize. Johnathan Clements, a former writer for the Wall Street Journal, made a poignant remark: “Stocks will make fantastic investments over the next 30 years, if only we can get through tomorrow.” Investing is not a sprint; it’s a marathon. The best investment strategy focuses on long-term growth in high-quality companies. Yes, it does take time, that is why our motto is…
“Everything in life that has meaning, value or worth; involves work, time, and effort.”
