Polls look ugly, panic sets in, and suddenly Washington discovers a bold new policy that is going to save you money and prove they are fighting for the little guy. I want to give people credit for their intelligence. So I will be direct. The people pushing this either know it will backfire and do not care, or they genuinely do not understand how fuel and energy logistics work in this country. Neither option should make you feel good.

Here Is What They Are Not Telling You

Diesel comes from crude oil, refined almost entirely along the Gulf Coast. Sounds simple. But here is where the establishment narrative falls apart completely.

• There are not enough pipelines or domestic shipping capacity to reroute Gulf Coast diesel to California or the Northeast. Those regions already import their diesel from overseas.
• The Jones Act makes domestic maritime shipping so expensive it might as well not exist as a solution
• American diesel exports sustain long-term trade relationships with countries around the world. Cut off those exports and those customers turn to China. That market does not come back.
• Gulf Coast diesel storage has a ceiling. Once it fills up, refiners cut production. Less production from a barrel of oil means less gasoline, less diesel, less plastic, less of everything.

The Price You Will Actually Pay

Here is the chain of events nobody in Washington is walking you through. You ban exports, European diesel prices explode upward. Higher European energy costs mean higher prices on everything you buy that gets made or shipped from there. Meanwhile domestic refinery output drops, gasoline supply tightens, and you end up paying more at the pump than you did before the ban that was supposed to help you.

This is the same crowd that killed the Keystone Pipeline. The same crowd that let New York sit on top of massive natural gas reserves and refuse to touch them. The same crowd that shut down nuclear plants while lecturing you about clean energy. The same crowd that sanctioned Russian fuel and then quietly carved out exceptions because Boston needed its heating oil from Russia.
